'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' free on Steam this weekend

'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' is available for free on Steam until Oct. 2, Sunday.

"Call of Duty" fans can now play one of the franchise's action-packed titles without shelling out a single penny. The first-person shooter series' "Black Ops 3" title will be free to play over the weekend on Steam.

Steam is offering the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" video game for free to gamers until Oct. 2, Sunday, 1 PM PT. The offer also allows users to purchase the video game at a discount if they wish to continue playing the military/science-fiction title, Gamespot reported.

The game will be available for $30 but the discount offer stands only until Oct. 3, Monday, 10 AM PT. Some of the other titles that will can be purchased at a discounted price include "The Division," "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and "Doom." Moreover, Steam is also handing out discounts on hardware accessories such as Steam Controller and Link skins.

The "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" Steam offer comes just days after developer Treyarch released mod tools for the title for the very first time with its latest update.The mod tools support was released via a beta and is available under Steam Library's "Tools" tab. It comes with Steam Workshop support, an unranked server browser, a level and property editor, and the Mod Tools launcher, according to PC Gamer.

"Salvation," the final DLC expansion for "Black Ops III," was released earlier this month for PS4 consoles as a result of Sony's exclusive deal with Activision. The expansion will make its way to PC and Xbox One in the coming weeks.

Activision's upcoming title "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's" beta version lands on PS4 on Oct. 14 until Oct. 17 before being re-opened to PS4 gamers as well as Xbox One players on Oct. 21. The beta will expire on Oct. 24.
