WWE Rumors: Paige retiring from wrestling because of a serious neck injury?

WWE superstar Paige arrives for WWE RAW at 02 Brooklyn Bowl on April 18, 2016.

Paige has been a hot topic on wrestling dirt sheets for the past three months due to her suspension and relationship with Alberto Del Rio. Now, the rumors imply that she might be retiring from wrestling due to a neck injury.

The 24-year-old superstar is not having the best year of her career with the way she is getting booked by the WWE. She also got suspended for 30 days on August 17, which was her birthday, for violating the WWE Wellness Policy.

There were also reports that Paige might leave the WWE because of her current relationship with Del Rio. The Mexican superstar was released last month but she has confirmed through her Twitter account that she is not going anywhere.

However, Paige has not made her television return despite her suspension ending in mid-September. Apparently, she is undergoing physical therapy to recover from neck and shoulder injuries but it is not working.

In an official statement, Paige revealed that she will undergo neck surgery. She also expressed her gratitude to her fans for their continued support.

According to Uproxx, Dr. Uribe is the same surgeon who performed Nikki Bella's neck injury last year. There were rumors that she might retire from wrestling but she recovered well and she now wrestles on SmackDown.

The threat of the surgery being career-ending is not out of the question for Paige. It is a very delicate procedure that ended many careers in wrestling including Stone Cold Steve Austin and Edge. Despite her young age, Paige already has more than a decade of experience because she made her debut at the age of 13.

According to Joe Burgett of The Inquisitr, Paige may end up missing more than a year to recover from neck surgery. It is the typical recovery time for that kind of surgeries unless she has the same super-healing ability of John Cena.

"The worst part about this entire thing is that Paige may end up missing at least a year due to the surgery. It was hoped that she could avoid it early on, however, this is not always the case for people who build up issues over time," Burgett reported.

Nevertheless, Paige will have a lot of time to recover from her injury and she will not be going anywhere. If she misses more than a year of action, her contract that is going to expire in 2019 automatically adds a year.
