Huawei opens in Argentina with a 1-peso smartphone.

Huawei opened their office in Argentina and launched the Y6. They made consumers flock their event for the unit's sale of 1 peso.

Rodrigo Ubeda, the marketing director of Huawei Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, said, "The 'one peso day' allows 300 Huawei 'fans,' that have previously registered on our Web page, to be able to buy a Huawei Y6, a mid- to high-end telephone, for only one peso."

The most notable feature of the Huawei Y6 is its 8-megapixel camera, with a 2-megapixel front-facing sensor and an integrated audio system. It also has an internal memory of 8 GB and 1/2 GB RAM.

The Huawei Y6 was released in July 2015. It is equipped with a 5-inch IPS LCD display featuring a resolution of 1280 x 720. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

The handset is backed by a 2,200 mAh battery that is good for 300 hours of stand-by.

Nicolas Alganaraz, the first in line to enter the Huawei store, said, "I found out about it through a friend who shared it on Facebook and now I thank him."

He added, "They told me that on Tuesday night there were already people (queueing). On Wednesday, I was first in line. It was hard to sleep on the floor on top of cardboard and nothing else. The past two nights were very cold."

Alganaraz registered on the website and knew that only the first 300 would be given the phone. He slept on the street the night before the event.

In China, Huawei is the top-selling phone manufacturer and takes a majority of the market's share. The phone manufacturer pushed out Samsung and Apple in the top four spots.
