Andy Murray will attempt to win his first China Open title when he faces Grigor Dimitrov in the final round of the tournament on Oct. 9 at the Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center.
Top seed Murray hopes to earn his first title at the China Open 2016 and move closer to dethroning Novak Djokovic as world No. 1 in the ATP Rankings. Murray, who took over the top seed when Djokovic withdrew due to an elbow injury, continued his impressive form in Beijing after defeating Spain's David Ferrer in straight sets 6-2 6-3.
Murray has yet to drop a set at the tournament this week, but may finally encounter a tough opponent in Dimitrov, whom the Scot has already faced twice this year, most recently in a victory at the US Open.
Dimitrov received a walkover against Canada's Milos Raonic, who injured his ankle in his quarterfinal win over Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta. Dimitrov, who ranks No. 20 in the world, trails Murray in their FedEx ATP Head2Head matchup by 3-7, but the 25-year-old Bulgarian was able to score a victory over the world No. 2 earlier this year at the Miami Masters in Florida.
Murray should be the heavy-favorite to win the China Open, considering his impressive run in the tournament, wherein he has yet to drop a single set. But Dimitrov could also be dangerous after gaining the much-needed confidence following his win over Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal round.
Meanwhile, on the women's side Johanna Konta booked a final round clash against Agnieszka Radwanska, who dismissed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 7-6(3) 6-3.
Konta defeated American Madison Keys 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-4 and assured herself of a place in the next WTA top-10 rankings. Konta is the first British to woman to break into the top 10 since Jo Durie in 1984.
"I'm definitely enjoying my time here, it's my first time playing Beijing and I hope to play many more times," Konta said, reports The Guardian.
"It's really special, I feel very blessed to be coming back for the final."
