Lincoln Cars Sales Surge; Automaker Considering Production in China

Ford's elite brand, Lincoln, will be moving production to China.

Ford's luxury line, Lincoln, is planning to move its manufacturing base to China due to the surge of sales in the country. Sales tripled to 8,546 units in the third quarter.

Lincoln China President Amy Marentic said that sales exceeded more than expected and they intend to open five more stores, totaling to 65.

The company also plans to have a total of 80 stores by the middle of 2017.

"You're always looking for ways to optimize your business," Marentic said.

In total, Lincoln has sold a total of 21,000 vehicles in the past three-quarters. The company's rival, General Motors declared that they sold around M sold about 12,500 units of Cadillac, up 63 percent.

Ford has also experienced growth in the lower class vehicles in China. Their press release stated that the sales growth for August is a record high at 22 percent.

According to the press release, "Ford and its joint ventures in China have set another record for company performance in August, as sales for the month totaled 96,450 vehicles, up 22 percent compared to Aug. 2015."

"Our new product surge continues this month with the launch of the new Kuga SUV with SYNC 3."

The best selling units are New Edge, Focus and Escort Drive. The increase in sales was driven by revenue from small cars sales.

"Sales of small vehicles helped lead Ford's strong performance in August, with sales of the new Ford Focus up 92 percent and sales of the Ford Escort up 49 percent compared to Aug. 2015," according to the company.
