Filming for "Ocean's 8" will soon begin in New York, as confirmed by Warner Bros. The spinoff to the hit comedy heist film top billed by George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt is getting a female-driven super cast with a ton of A-listers joining the mix.
Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett were two of the first cast members confirmed for "Ocean's 8." Deadline reported that Warner Bros. has also sealed the deal with Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina (otherwise known as Nora Lum in "Neighbors 2") to join the crew.
According to E! News, "American Horror Story: Roanoke" star Sarah Paulson is also in talks to join the all-female dream team.
Some of the cast members have expressed their excitement at working on the project, particularly Hathaway as she is thrilled to work with VMA Video Vanguard Award recipient Rihanna.
"I'm excited that we're going to get to hang out in the makeup trailer and trade tips and get to know each other better," Hathaway told E! News at the Toronto International Film Festival. Both stars worked together for an episode of "Saturday Night Live" a few years back.
Kaling, on the other hand, joked on being "scared" about working with such an elite group of talented women.
"Look, I'm real scared, man, because when I look at that list of people, I know that my skill is going to be: I get attacked by the guard dog so they can break into the casino," Kaling said, in reference to the movie's premise about organized heists.
Although details about the plot have been kept under wraps, it is reported that the group is going to pull off a heist at the Met Gala in New York, hence the filming location.
Director Gary Ross, who also worked on the original "Ocean's" films, said the spinoff has a "pretty similar tone" to that of its predecessors.
"Ocean's 11" director Steven Soderbergh is attached as a producer to the spinoff, while Ross wrote the script with Olivia Milch.
"Ocean's 8" is set to premiere in theaters on June 8, 2018.
