Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu spilled the beans on why he took a four-year break from martial arts roles. Currently, the 42-year-old star is busy filming the second season of AMC's "Into the Badlands."

In a sit-down interview with BT.com, Wu discussed his "Into the Badlands" character. In particular, the "Overheard 3" actor said that the AMC series is one of the most demanding projects he worked on.

"I've done martial arts films in the past in Hong Kong, but doing it for television is the biggest challenge," Wu revealed. He added that the set up of "Into the Badlands" is like a Hong Kong style martial arts TV series.

In order to effectively show that level of action, Wu revealed that they needed to shoot one episode within the eight-day time frame. He then detailed why he had taken a long break from martial arts roles.

Apparently, seeing all the injuries legendary actor Jackie Chan had is one of the many factors why Wu stepped away from the martial arts roles. He then stated that they will try to ask the "Kung Fu Yoga" actor to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming "Into the Badlands" Season 2.

"We'll see about that," said Wu. "He made a little clip about how he was disappointed that he wasn't involved, so maybe we'll try and get him involved in the second season at a certain point."

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, "Into the Badlands" follows the story of a great warrior named Sunny (Wu) and a young boy, M.K. (Aramis Knight). Together, the two search for enlightenment in a heartless domain headed by medieval aristocrats.

Due to the immense success of "Into the Badlands" Season 1, AMC renewed the show for a 10-episode second season, Variety reported. It is intended to hit the airwaves in early 2017.
