Because it is older women often who holds the purse in the family, the Tangdou Guangchangwu, or Public Square Dancing app, may have hit a gold mine with its launch of a dancing app for that market.

The Dancing Auntie app aims to help Chinese women of a certain age to gather similar-minded females so they could dance the night away. The app teaches them new moves by providing links to live streaming services of dance video tutorials on the app, Shanghaiist reported.

Going beyond the dance floor, the app includes getting in touch with other women on the schedule of events and where to meet. Users can also invite new people using the app.

Just to indicate the potential for Tangdou developers to financially benefit from the app, Dancing Auntie received $15 million Series B Funding. The market potential is huge since there is an estimated 100 million public square dancers in China, People’s Daily reported.

The potential goes beyond dancing since the app could have as likely partners travel agencies and financial service providers since the older women, also called damas, often make the decision when it comes to purchases related to travel, leisure and similar services.

Data from Alibaba said that damas tend to be economical, but they also spend a significant amount on dancing clothes, radios, teaching equipment, bullet-proof vests and other items.
