"God Wars" director Yoshimi Yasuda provided information on gameplay, inspiration, and many more of the video game. He also revealed that it might get a sequel if it gets a good response.
Yasuda told Dual Shockers in an exclusive interview that in order to appeal to the western gamers he wanted to incorporate the source of Japanese roots and culture. He used the Japanese mythological figure Okuninushi and the land offering as their motif. He wanted the western gamers to have an interest with Japanese history and culture with this game.
Yasuda revealed that it is their fundamental strategy to release any games that Kadokawa Games develops for the western gamers. He also hopes that the gamers will enjoy the stories behind the children of the Miharashinouzunomiko like Amaterasu, Susanoo, and Tsukuyomi with this game.
Japanese ancient history and mythology was one of the great interests of the game director. He revealed that he has been studying it for 30 years already, and he is proud to call it is personal life work. He is also interested in the genetic research that DNA of Japanese people contains both Jomon and Yayoi people.
The game director revealed that the biggest inspiration for "God Wars" is Japanese religious views. He explained that the gods worshipped in Ancient Japan were mischievous gods. These gods can sometimes bring blessings, but sometimes they can be a big threat to the Japanese people.
Raising all-powerful characters by changing jobs and learning all the skills is what makes a tactical RPG fun, Yasuda explained. In the game, each character will have different styles like being an attacker, tank, sniper, and scout. They will also incorporate the traditional systems and each character will have their unique individuality with their own set job and skills.
The game originally had a concept of two works, Yasuda revealed. The full plot for the scenario will extend to "God Wars 2" if there is a good response to the first game, he said. They also want the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions to sell well first before they think of releasing it to other platforms.
