Premier League transfer rumours: Why Manchester United need Gimenez to bolster their defence

Jose Gimenez has been quite

With the news that central defender Eric Bailly is likely to be out until at least January, Manchester United will need to strengthen at the heart of their defence. Yes, the transfer window doesn't open until January, which is when the Ivorian Bailly is expected to return, but what has become apparent is that Man United need some defensive cover when the former Villareal man a £30 million summer signing, isn't available.

Bailly who has represented his country in the 2015 African Cup Of Nations, has been very impressive since swapping Spain for Manchester. Quick, big, strong and someone who has a good reading of the game, Eric Bailly has adjusted to life in the Premier League like a duck has to water.

The £30 million summer signing Bailly however as we know, is now injured and United appear to be lacking the defensive cover to fill the void that the Ivorian's departure is having in The Red Devils defence.

Players like Daley Blind or Timothy Fosu Mensah can play in the heart of the Man United defence, but the need for a player who can naturally play there is essential for a Manchester United team that is in the process of rebuilding or what some say is a transition.

One player who in my humble opinion who can fill the void or even play alongside Bailly is Jose Gimenez. Gimenez who is a 21-year old Uruguayan international plays his football in Spain with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year old Gimenez has formed a crucial partnership with compatriot with Diego Godin. Uruguayan international Gimenez might not be known for his pace, but what he does have is a good understanding of the game as well being quick.

Attributes like those are arguably the reason why Manchester United and Chelsea are rumoured to be readying a bid for the Uruguay defender. Both sides can argue their reasons as to why they need to sign the 21-year old, but arguably United are more in need of signing Gimenez than rivals Chelsea.

The Red Devils' decision to sign just one defender in the transfer window is looking to be a decision that has come back to haunt them.
