‘Grey’s Anatomy’ cast news: This major cast member just announced the exit after season 12?

"Grey's Anatomy" and Sara Ramirez fans may be pleased to know that the actress could return to the hit ABC series this season.

According to TV Line, the cast of the series will soon go on production for an episode that will take place on board a commercial airline. A crisis will take place mid-flight, and doctors from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital would have to help out.

Meanwhile, TV writer Michael Ausiello noted that Sara's Callie and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) share a bi-coastal custody arrangement for their daughter Sofia. This means that the episode is the perfect opportunity for the character to make a cameo on the show.

However, a source close to Ramirez said that the actress hasn't been in discussion with the network yet. Ramirez shocked the "Grey's Anatomy" world in May when she decided to quit the series. Details about her departure weren't disclosed, but executive producer Shonda Rhimes said that the actress was ready to move on.

Following her exit, Ramirez released an official statement that read, "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at 'Grey's Anatomy' and ABC, but for now, I'm taking some welcome time off. Shonda's been so incredible to work for and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my love to Ellen Pompeo, the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!" she said.

Meanwhile, Ramirez isn't the only character who has left "Grey's Anatomy." Previously, Katherine Heigl was axed from the show after she got into a feud with Rhimes. Sandra Oh, who plays the role of Cristina Yang, also left the show at the end of season 10. In season 11, Patrick Dempsey's Derick Shepherd was killed off.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
