‘The Voice’ Season 11: Billy Gilman wows with ‘Crying’ performance; Garth Brooks joins Blake Shelton as key adviser

"The Voice" Season 11 will feature another country music legend with Garth Brooks' impending visit to help coach Blake Shelton. Meanwhile, Billy Gilman showcased his vocal prowess during the NBC show's recent live playoffs.

"The Voice" contender Gilman gave a powerful performance during the NBC singing competition's recent episode. Aired on Nov. 7, Monday, the two-hour live playoffs featured a tense elimination round that reduced the show's 20 contestants to 12 finalists.

Gilman, who performed Roy Orbison's track "Crying," was among the contestants chosen by fans to move forward in the NBC show. Under "The Voice" coach Adam Levine's tutelage, the former country child star formed one third of the Maroon 5 singer's reduced team along with contenders Josh Gallagher and Brendan Fletcher.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old singer has been impressing many viewers and fans with his vocal talents. Having debuted as a country music star in 2000, Gilman became the youngest singer whose song nabbed a spot on Billboard's Top 20 Hot Country Songs list.

However, the then 12-year-old artist had a challenging music career where he eventually rebranded himself as a pop singer. With the musician's participation in "The Voice," Gilman stated that he initially had apprehensions joining the NBC singing competition.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer recounted having approached several people and mentors seeking for their advice whether he should join "The Voice." However, discussions with a few record label bosses who became the musician's friends helped him to move forward with his plans.

Gilman shared, "They said, 'What have you got to lose?' That's what really turned me on to doing it in the first place ... There's more to gain."

In other news, "The Voice" Season 11 will feature another talented country music star with Brooks' upcoming visit. The award-winner singer will serve as a key advisor for Shelton's team, according to WJBD Radio.
