Metro 2033 sequel Metro 2035 is not coming out in 2017.

"Metro 2035" has been teased by the previous game's website but it turns out that the highly-acclaimed title's sequel will not be seen in 2017.

The good news is that Deep Silver did confirm that they have plans for the franchise and are not keen on ending the story there and then. "Metro 2035" could still be a thing but the release date teased in the game's website could have been just a mistake.

Artyom is still expected to be the protagonist in the next sequel although the details are still vague at the moment. "Metro 2033" was one of the best thrillers and action shooters across platforms when it was released years ago.

Metro Facebook page said: "As the exclusive rights holder to videogames set in the 'Metro 2033' universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans' expectations - releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them."

The tease from the Metro website turns out to be a bust but there is still no explanation yet as to what happened, VG247 has learned. The "Metro 2033" sequel could be still in early development stages and the whole thing might be an elaborate guerilla marketing campaign for the franchise.

"When we have more news to share, we will. Thank you for your patience," the statement said.

Fans of "Metro 2033" and "Last Light," which are based on a book, want more of the game. Some want the game to be open-world and have more missions.

Artyom might have a new threat to face in the "Metro 2035" or "Metro 2033" sequel. Some also claim that the next installment is actually a standalone adventure that new players will be able to enjoy by itself even if they did not play the first two games, Trusted Reviews reported.

Deep Silver will have to announce their plans for "Metro 2033" or "Metro 2035" soon. What is sure is that the sequel will not be present in 2017.
