Snapbots selling Snapchat Spectacles video sunglasses start to appear in Los Angeles

Snapbots from Snapchat selling Spectacles have arrived in Los Angeles.

Snapchat's Spectacles have started to be sold by their Snapbots scattered across the land but fans will have to rush to buy one as the video sunglasses have limited stocks.

The photo-sharing app's maker announced the Spectacles in September and Snapchat users clearly wanted to buy it already considering that it would make video captures easier. Spectacles allow users to record video on the sunglasses itself without all the hassle of bringing out their smartphones out in the public.

Unfortunately, the glasses cannot be treated as a spy camera because it can only take short videos. Snapchat's Spectacles were first sold in Los Angeles through the company's Snapbots which is a yellow vending machine, BBC News has learned. Interestingly, Snapbots look similar to "Despicable Me" Minions because they are designed to have one eye.

Just like Snapchat photos, the Snapbots are not expected to last long. Spectacles are in limited supply and it could be the company's strategy so that people will rush to buy them as soon as a Snapbot is available near them.

There has been no word on whether the company will continue to sell more of the video sunglasses. It could just be the first wave of sales.

Snapchat Spectacles will be able to work with both Android and iOS devices with the app installed, Pocket-Lint reported. Android devices will use the Wi-Fi connection while iOS devices will use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect with the sunglasses.

Each video taken can only last a maximum of 30 seconds. The device initially will record just a 10-second video and it can only be extended by tapping a button on the Spectacles so that it can reach 30 seconds max.

Snapchat said that Spectacles' batteries can last for up to a day on normal use and it can be charged using the cable and charging case included in each purchase. The device costs $130 and comes in three different colors: coral, teal and black so users will be able to match their outfits.
