After the well-acclaimed LG G5, the South Korean company is preparing for the release of the device's successor, the LG G6, which should dominate the smartphone industry with impressive specs such as iris scanner and wireless charging.

In an attempt to fill the large shoes of its predecessor, G6 will come without the G5's modular design and interchangeable modules. Instead, the handset will be equipped with an iris scanner, which is a large staple in the tech industry nowadays.

According to Guide, LG Innotek has been developing iris-scanning technology that could be tapped in the new flagship LG G6's chassis. During the Korea Electronic Show, LG unveiled a new module which could combine the front-facing camera and iris-scanning technology into one by using filters. However, the company is yet to release a statement on the inclusion of this technology on G6.

Based on past reviews, LG introduced a wireless charging module that is capable of charging up to 50 percent of battery in just half an hour, which could also be included into LG G6's specs.

Following the leaked upgrades on the LG G6, a speculation on the OLED panel being incorporated into the LG G6 surfaced online. Since the South Korean tech company already manufactures OLED screens for televisions and wearables, it would be a plausible idea for integrating these displays on smartphones.

Under the hood, the LG G6 is said to sport a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display with potential support for 4k videos. Packing 32GB storage, Snapdragon 830 processor and Android 7.0 Nougat, the LG G6 is rumored to come with a dual camera and USB-type C charging ports. More importantly, the next iteration in the lineup is said to feature glass rear, instead of an aluminum body.

According to CDaily, LG G6 is also rumored to be equipped with the utilization of Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology, a feature that is close to Samsung's payment platform, Samsung Pay, which is incorporate in its Samsung Galaxy S6 and succeeding flagship iterations.

The LG G6 is expected to be formally announced during February 2017 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, whereas its release date may come two months afterwards, preferably sometime in April. Its pricing has not been disclosed yet but consumers may look at a $650 price tag.
