Susan Boyle, who has not made a public performance since the summer of 2015, revealed on Nov. 20, Sunday, she may never sing live again. The Scottish singer, who came to limelight on "Britain's Got Talent" in 2009, said her Asperger's syndrome has been so debilitating that she is incapable of finalizing the dates for a new tour.
Boyle, who released her latest album "A Wonderful World" earlier in November, told The Mirror that she needs to lose over two stones to remain fit. She added, "I needed to stop eating sweeties and cakes. It's the bane of my life."
The singer was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2012 and soon after this Boyle kept herself away from limelight. All the while she has been concentrating on her personal life. Explaining her debacle, Boyle, 55, said that when one performs on stage, he needs to create a persona. "I hide behind that person on stage, because the audience wants to see someone smiley.
The condition Boyle is enduring means she often experiences an unpredictable behavior. Even a slight insinuation of stress can result in a public meltdown. She also has problems in communicating. These have made live shows a major risk for her, a potentially very difficult situation to deal with.
This is the reason why Boyle hasn't been able to set dates for another tour. Currently, the singer, who is signed to record label Syco, said she is taking baby steps and has decided to record and see how things go. Boyle told the publication that she is doing little at a time and then build up from there.
The death of her sister Bridie McCaw, 73, in October 2015 compounded the singer's miseries. She received another shock when doctors found in 2015 that she also suffered from type-2 diabetes. Earlier, doctors told the singer that she suffered from brain damage at birth.
During her interview with the publication, Boyle also talked about men and her love life. She disclosed that she is in touch with a Florida doctor, whose name she refused to divulge. The singer also talked about her desire to adopt a baby, but feared it may make her cat jealous.
While Asperger's syndrome has taken its toll on Boyle, the singer has succeeded in turning all her energy to release "A Wonderful World." The new album includes a virtual duet with the late Nat King Cole and an assortment of Christian Classics,Daily Mail reported.
There is more good news for the Scottish singer. Currently, there are talks about a film on her life. While it is being tipped that Meryl Streep may portray her character, the singer herself prefers the British actress Julie Walters for the role.
