“Rule the World,” or “Walking Alone Under Heaven,” is directed by Shao Jinghui. Before last week’s kick-off ceremony by the show’s cast and producers, attended by Raymond Lam, the drama was announced at the Tencent Video Convention in early November in Hengdian when promotional posters were revealed.

The TV series is based on a 2007 novel by author Li Xin. The romantic novel is popular among Chinese netizens with about 18 million having read it on Sina Weibo. However, while many look forward to the TV series, some have expressed apprehension the TV drama would not be as good as the novel.

“Rule the World” is set during the Qing Dynasty which means Raymond Lam would need to shave his head for the role. Other actors are Zhang Rui and Chen Xinyu. According to DramaPanda, the series would be shown in late 2017 because it would only begin shooting. Raymond Lam and Tang Yixin are known for acting in historical dramas such as her role in “Legend of Chusen.”

Costume drama is a favorite genre in Asia. On Nov. 11, Beijing Satellite TV premiered the series “Princess Wei Yang” starring actress Tiffany Tang Tan.
