McDonalds Big Mac became one of the most iconic burgers ever created. Unfortunately, the person behind that wonderful and tasteful creation has recently passed away.

Michael "Jim" Delligatti, a franchisee of McDonald's and the creator of Big Mac, passed away Nov. 28 at his home in Pittsburgh. Few hours after his death was publicized, people showing sympathy to what happened flooded the social media.

Emmett Mcfarlane, with account name @EmmMacfarlane, posted on his Twitter account, "The inventor of the Big Mac lived until 98, which is definitely the greatest validation of my eating habits I could've asked for." DJ Vlad of VladTV.com also shared in his Twitter account his condolences and appreciation because of the happiness Big Mac has brought him since he was a kid.

The McDonald's company also showed their sympathy to the death of the Big Mac's inventor. A photo was posted on their social media account that showed Delligati holding two Big Macs with a caption, "'I would never have dreamed that my creation would turn into a piece of Americana,' Michael 'Jim' Delligatti, Big Mac Inventor 1918-2016. "

 "We will remember Jim as an insightful franchisee, a knowledgeable businessman, and an honorable gentleman who left a legacy of four generations of family members running great restaurants in Pennsylvania and North Carolina," the McDonald's company said in a statement. They also added how a great person Delligatti has been especially when it comes to leaving an amazing and "lasting impression" on their brand, as posted by the Telegraph.

Delligatti started to offer his newly created Big Mac burger in his own McDonald's franchise in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. After its debut, it instantly became a hit that McDonald's company introduced the burger nationwide in 1968.

The product gained a lot of income for the company. In fact, it was announced on its 40th anniversary that an estimated of about 550 million units were sold each year, as reported by Bloomberg. At present, Big Macs are already available to over 100 countries worldwide.
