It has been officially announced that Peyton manning will wear Denver Broncos jersey again for the 2015 season, but with a $4 million pay cut, according to NFL. The Broncos confirmed on Thursday, 05 March that Manning has passed his physical and agreed to the restructured contract extension which will offer him $15 Million instead of $19 Million as base pay for the season.
Manning, however, has the opportunity to recoup his slashed pay through incentives. In fact, two wins in the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl each worth $2 million, would make up the $4 million that has been deducted from manning's base pay.
Manning's agreement has made it possible for the Broncos to go ahead to build a roster with much confidence as the team is sure that they have the experienced quarterback in place, who is more than just aware about the legacy and the duties he must perform.
Many analysts have also vowed that the money deducted from Manning's salary could be used to add some firepower in the offense by negating the loss of Julius Thomas.
"I don't talk about my contract. I never have in 18 years and I'm not going to start now," Manning said Wednesday afternoon, via The Denver Post.
Manning further added, "I've been working real hard and I'm excited to be back with the Denver Broncos. Can't wait for April 13 to get here when the team can finally come together. I'm excited to get to work and get to know the new coaches and looking forward to trying to make 2015 a special year."
Manning had signed a five-year contract with the Broncos in 2012 that had the provision that required Manning to appear for and pass a physical every offseason. That provision is also believed to have a direct effect on Manning's salary for each offseason as well.
Manning went through a quadriceps injury late last season and most of the Broncos fans were eagerly waiting for the final news about his next season. However, manning made it clear in January that passing his 2015 physical - a test to check whether his surgically repaired neck is alright -- would not be a problem.
The 2015 season officially begins on 10 March and could be Manning's final season.
