Jason Momoa will join Henry Cavill as one of the DC characters to have his own film with 'Aquaman' set to be released in 2018.

2016 has seen Marvel and DC Comics duel it out in the film and television industry, with both comic giants producing their own movies and Netflix TV series. DC Comics has another to add to its list of movies with the "Aquaman" set to be released in 2018.

Warner Bros. has set Oct. 5, 2018 as the superhero film's possible release date in 3D and in Imax, Variety reported.

The film will star Jason Momoa in his own standalone film after seeing a cameo last March in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and will soon play the same role in the much awaited "Justice League" on Nov. 17, 2017 .

Momoa, who played as Khal Drogo in the HBO hit "Game of Thrones," will have Amber Heard, who will play the role Mera, as his love interest in "Aquaman."  The latter will also join the former and the rest of the DC Comics gang in "Justice League" next year.

Momoa has been a busy man with four of his films yet to be released, namely"The Bad Batch," "Going Under," "Braven" and "Justice League." Now with his own starring role in "Aquaman," which is set for filming in Australia next year, Momoa is busier than ever.

According to Empire Online, William Dafoe, who played the Green Goblin in DC's rival Marvel's "Spider-man," will reprise his trole as Nuidis Vulko, who is a trusted advisor and friend to Aquaman but also is a dangerous threat.

"Aquaman" will be directed by James Wan and will be produced by Peter Safran. Zack and Deborah Snyder together with Rob Cowan will produce the film.

Meanwhile, DC Comics fans have many movies to watch out for, such as Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman," Ezra Miller's "The Flash," Ray Fisher's "Cyborg," "Shazam" and "Green Lantern."
