Motorola launches Moto Z Droid with Moto Mods at High Line on August 4, 2016 in New York City.

It was previously believed that the Moto X smartphone was discontinued, but Chinese company Lenovo, which now owns Motorola, debunked the rumors back in June. Now, a new set of images got leaked on the internet and are said to be of the 2017 version of the phone. The Moto X 2017 is now expected to debut at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show.

Judging from the pictures posted originally by Tech Droider, the speculated Moto X 2017 could be a 5.5- to 5.7-inch device. Gold is also said be one of its available colors, either with a metal frame or a full-metal body. The front-bottom portion of the device showcases the home button that could have a built-fingerprint security scanner.

The other image displays the back-end of the handset, which is prominently occupied by the large and round camera module that also includes a dual-LED flash. The traditional Motorola logo is also displayed in the middle section of the back cover.

The overall design of the alleged  Moto X 2017 is a combination of design from other smartphones of the company. As pointed out by Digital Trends, the metal chassis is similar to the Moto M while the camera and fingerprint sensor were borrowed from the Moto Z.

Additionally, the MotoMods line of accessories is not likely to be supported on the highly anticipated device. The leaked images do not show any contact pins at the back, so one can surmise that this will not be a modular phone.

Speaking of which, the phone company recently added two new mods, the 3000 mAh Mophie Battery Pack and the Incipio Car Dock that comes equipped with a 3.5 mm audio out. These are available only for the Moto Z.

Currently, very minimal information is known when it comes to the Moto X 2017's specifications. However, tech observers are expecting additional information to arrive before the smartphone goes official.

There are also rumors that the Moto X 2017 could possibly debut during the CES 2017, which will happen from Jan. 5 to 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
