La Liga 2016-2017: Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao, Preview, Prediction & Predicted Lineup

Struggling squad Real Betis (4-7-3, 15 points) will square off with contending team Athletic Bilbao (7-5-2, 23 points) at the Benito Villamarín Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 11 as the 2016-2017 La Liga season continues.

Real Betis is on a two-game winless skid as the team has also been winless in four of their last five outings. They are currently in the 14th spot of the Spanish top flight table, only three points above the bottom three relegation area.

Los Verdiblancos are was able to hold middling club Celta Vigo to a 3-3 draw last Sunday also at their home field of Benito Villamarín, as per Football España.

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a close range left-footer from an assist by teammate Daniel Wass.

Spanish striker Ruben Castro converted a penalty kick in the 41st to level the count at the halftime break.

The Béticos then took the lead in the second half with a goal from Paraguayan striker Antonio Sanabria, but it was leveled again with Aspas' second goal of the game in the 61st.

Head coach Víctor Sánchez's team got back the lead in the 73rd with a header by Argentine defender German Pezzella off a cross by Spanish midfielder Joaquin following a corner kick.

However, the last goal came from Pezzella's compatriot, Celta defender Facundo Roncaglia, as both sides settled for the tie.

Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao has been decent in their last six games with two wins, two losses, and two draws. They are still in the seventh place in the overall standings, tied on points with sixth-running squad Villarreal but has a lesser goal difference.

Bilbao is coming off a 3-1 win over another middling team, Eibar, last Sunday at their home ground of San Mamés Stadium, Press TV reported.

Benat Etxebarria and Iñaki Williams scored the first two goals in the 42nd and 55th minutes for head coach Ernesto Valverde's squad before Eibar forward Sergi Enrich was able to put his team on the board.

Iker Muniain sealed the game for the Athletic Club as the team won for the second time in three games.
