'Hitman' video game getting new mission, new targets this month

A life-size grisly murder scene draws attention to the exhibit of the violent video game, 'Hitman 2 Silent Assassin', on the first day of E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, May 22, 2002 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA .

"Hitman" game fans are in for a treat this month.  A new mission plus two new targets will be coming out.

Danish game developer IO Interactive will be rolling out the "Holiday Hoarders" mission on Dec. 13, which will undoubtedly bring the holiday spirit to the game. There will also be extra rewards on the side for the holiday-specific challenges, according to the game's official announcement.

During the first week of the month, from Dec. 5 to 11, the "Master Sniper" challenge pack was added to the second episode called Sapenza. This week, Dec. 12 to 18, aside from the holiday mission, elusive target #16 will also be added. From Dec. 19 to 25, in the same episode, an escalation contract will also become available. For the final week of 2016, elusive target #17 will arrive on the fourth episode, Bangkok.

"Hitman" is a good game option for spy-wannabies who want to unleash their inner Jason Bourne (of the "Bourne" book and film series). In this video game, they can take on the role of Agent 47, a stealthy, highly skilled spy who is and built for the kill with his two silenced .45 caliber pistols.

Like Bourne, Agent 47 gets involved in many tactical missions. A gamer would experience attending a public event or infiltrating a heavily guarded villa in order to fulfill a contract and neutralize an enemy. Players are also expected to remain undetected even while escaping. The game is literally loaded with missions that players will forget the trained assassin in the movie for hours and even days.

Game fans are also offered several ways to put down a target. Aside from the ever-reliable dual-1911 handguns, Agent 47 can also take things up close and personal by using bladed weapons or a garrote wire. Players can also use explosives to create a diversion or even make the target's death an accidental one.

The studio also released a "Holiday Hoarders" trailer video last week and shows Agent 47 donning a Santa suit.

"Hitman" is the sixth entry in the popular action-adventure stealth video game series and this year's release is in episodic form.  Thus, instead of cramming the six stories into one game, IO Interactive decided to release it by episodes. The studio has already released all the six episodes for the game's first season -- the latest one was released last Oct. 31.
