LG G6 ditches modularity to make way for water resistance, removable battery?

The LG G5 is the company's flagship smartphone released in 2016.

LG hit a homerun with its V10 and the new V20 but the G5 did not garner that much positive feedback. Now, the company may change its approach with the rumored G6 flagship.

The original LG G5 was a modular smartphone which means that users could add or subtract modules to make it look and run better. Unfortunately, it did not sit well with the majority of LG's customers. It failed to deliver the same sense of awe that Google's Project Ara delivered in its trailers.

LG is now reportedly planning to drop the modularity all together. The LG G6 could become waterproof and feature a removable battery, Android Authority reported. Most flagship smartphones today tend to have some sort of water resistance and it would actually be a huge step considering that the LG V20 was not released with any sort of waterproofing.

Some are skeptical because smartphones that have removable batteries tend to have no waterproof capabilities at all. There are some workarounds but a removable battery usually means that the resistance is not as great as their non-removable counterparts.

Another great thing about the LG G6 is that it would still have the headphone jack, Pocket-Lint reported. Apple ditched the audio jack in the iPhone 7 and it sparked outrage across the globe. Still, loyal followers of the Cupertino-based tech giant still ate up the product including the wireless AirPods which have been the subject of ridicule and memes.

The LG G6 is also speculated to have a metal design for the rear which might be reflective. It could also follow the same design for the LG V20 which has a metallic body but a non-reflective surface.

Since the V20 already has a USB Type-C port, it would also make sense that the G6 would sport it also. It should support Quickcharge as well if it will be using a Qualcomm chipset in 2018. Fans will have to wait until CES 2017 or MWC 2017 to know whether the LG G6 will still be modular or waterproof.
