With the buzz on Huawei's 'concept phone' stealing some of the spotlight from Xiaomi's popular Mi Mix smartphone, the company revealed a teaser for its upcoming smartphone to be called the Honor Magic. Before the said report, past rumors point to the device's missing standard smartphone components such as a camera and speaker.
On Dec. 7, Huawei released a teaser image on its upcoming device, showing a matching letter 'M' and almost negligible bezel width guard in its display, both horizontal and side, India Today reported. Through the poster, the device appeared to sport a large display of over 5.5 inches.
Earlier, leaked reports on the concept modular smartphone reveals the phone's curved AMOLED touchscreen display taken from Samsung's flagship phones. The AMOLED touchscreen feature is reportedly carrying a Huawei proprietary fast charging tech that enables the gadget to charge from zero to 50 percent in just five minutes.
GizmoChina first reported the Honor concept phone's purported features. The phone is said to be sold as a base variant with detachable peripherals to perform the function of its missing standard smartphone components, such as speaker and camera. The concept of 'no camera and speaker' device will surely draw customers from the tech market, competing against other smartphone brands.
Under the Honor brand, the smartphone could also be similar to any other modular smartphone like the Moto Z or the LG G5.
However, any official details about the handset are still scarce online, although it is still expected to feature the curved display from Samsung, similar to the Galaxy Edge series. Though Honor has not yet released any statement regarding the 'Honor Magic' smartphone, some rumors suggest that the phone may actually feature a curve on all four edges of its display.
Interestingly enough, the Honor concept phone is being compared with its rival Xiaomi Mi Mix, also labeled as a "concept" when it launched in China, which sports a 6.4-inch display with a near-bezel free design as its main feature.
After the unveiling on Dec. 7, the smartphone's release date is now scheduled for Dec. 16 and will take place in China. More information on the new Honor concept phone should be revealed as the slated date draws near.
