Sneak peek of Netflix's new series, 'The OA'

Netflix has released the first official trailer for "The OA," showcasing the main mystery surrounding the character Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling) without giving away any plot spoilers. Marling is also the series creator and producer, alongside Zal Batmanglij.

"The OA" is a Netflix original series that will focus on the mystery of Johnson's disappearance. The trailer reveals she was blind when she first went missing but somehow regained her sight in the seven years that followed leading to her being found again.

However, Prairie refuses to tell her parents and the investigators how or why she was abducted, Variety reported. Unfortunately, the trailer does not give any clues regarding what Prairie may have done in the time she was missing but she does state in an ambiguous manner "I didn't disappear. I was present for all of it."

The official description for the show from Netflix states it is a "powerful, mind-bending tale about identity, human connection and the borders between life and death." According to Polygon, the show asks its audience to "trust the unknown" and that the series will explore the supernatural.

Several clips in the trailer show Prairie being medically monitored and there are other portions in the trailer where she is jumping off a bridge. By the end of the trailer she is shown inside a facility although it is uncertain if this is a prison or medical asylum of some sorts.

Netflix also posted three questions on Twitter. The posts collectively ask "Have you seen death? Have you seen darkness? Have you seen the light?" No answers for these questions have yet been released by the streaming network.

"The OA" will be comprised of eight episodes and will star Marling alongside Emory Cohen, Scott Wilson, Phyllis Smith, Jason Isaacs, Alice Krige, Patrick Gibson, Brendan Myer and Ian Alexander. The series is scheduled to premiere this Friday, Dec. 16.
