As fans of Taylor Swift lose hope for the singer releasing a new album this year, she comes out with a hot collaborative single with former One Direction member Zayn Malik. The single, titled "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," is part of the official "Fifty Shades Darker" soundtrack and is already topping the charts.
Even before the song makes its official launch, "I don't Wanna Live Forever" debuted at No. 25 on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart. The song entered the Nielsen Music-powered chart just within three days of airplay, Billboard reported.
According to The Guardian, "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" is a mid-tempo track that shows Malik and Swift exchanging verses. It is a love song that speaks of not wanting to live forever if a significant other is not part of that life.
The song, which came out on the US iTunes Store just before midnight of Dec. 9, peaked at No. 1 on the US iTunes chart within hours of its release.
"I Don't Wanna Live Forever" was written by Jack Antonoff with Taylor Swift and Sam Dew. Antonoff recorded the song with Swift at his home, while Malik sent his contribution from Los Angeles. Swift previous worked with Antonoff on her "1989" album.
"We did it in a week basically. I've never had something come out that quick," Antonoff said about the process.
"Fifty Shades Darker" stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as they reprise their roles as Ana Steele and Christian Grey, respectively. The rest of the cast list includes Hugh Dancy, Rita Ora, Kim Basinger, Bella Heathcote, Jennifer Ehle, Eric Johnson, Max Martini and more.
"I Don't Wanna Live Forever," together with the rest of the "Fifty Shades Darker" soundtrack will be released on Feb. 10, 2017, simultaneous with the movie's premiere in theaters.
Taylor Swift appearing on the "Fifty Shades Darker" soundtrack came as a surprise to many fans, and some speculated that it is a calculated move by the singer in order to possibly get her an Oscar nomination. Last year, The Weeknd was nominated at the Academy Awards for "Earned It."
