'Pokémon GO' Apple Watch app coming soon, says Niantic; cancellation email a hoax

Niantic has applied new changes to egg-hatching for "Pokemon Go" with more improvements expected to follow.

"Pokémon GO" developer Niantic reaffirmed that the game's app for the Apple Watch will come soon.  This was after a rumored announcement about its cancellation spread like wildfire on the internet.

The studio responsible for the highly successful augmented reality game immediately posted on Twitter that the game's port for the Apple smartwatch will be arriving in the not-so-distant future. The post said, "Pokémon Go for Apple Watch is coming soon. Stay tuned."

However, no further details were mentioned by Niantic with regards to its release date. The game was supposed to arrive by the end of this year, but the studio is simply saying that they will have more information about the version soon -- that is, unless they planning a surprise for the game's players.

The rumor started after a user posted an email on Reddit. The email allegedly came from a Niantic employee named Luke, and the content is said to have been a response to the query about the release date of the game's ported version to the watch.

The email suggests that the game presented during the Apple Keynote event was an unfinished version, and Niantic allegedly decided to stop its development. The reason behind the sudden change of plan is due to lack demand, claimed the supposed correspondence.

"Although development has been shelved, if demand for an Apple Watch port increases, we will continue development of the port," the electronic message stated.

The supposed recipient of the message also received "5 free incense" on their game's backpacks for the inconvenience that the issue allegedly brought up.

Meanwhile, "Pokémon GO" players can now experience the latest characters introduced in the game. Niantic recently announced on the game's website that Togepi, Pichacu and select Pokémon that were discovered in the previous "Pokémon Gold" and "Pokémon Silver" titles can now be acquired from hatching Eggs discovered at Pokéstops. As an added bonus, a holiday-themed Picachu can also be found, but for a limited time only.

"Pokémon GO" is a free-to-play, location-based AR game that allows its players to catch their favorite pocket monsters in the wild and train them to become stronger. It was released last July for iOS and Android devices.
