Hamburg has struggled all season long but was able to string four straight unbeaten performances. With that, they were able to get out of the cellar of the 18-team German top flight table and settle in the 17th spot at the moment.

However, the team suffered another loss in their most recent match last Saturday on the road at the Coface Arena against Mainz, 1-3, to snap their four-game undefeated streak, as per ESPN.

Head coach Markus Gisdol's squad netted the opening goal of the contest in the 21st minute with a right-footed shot by American striker Bobby Wood from the right side of the box off an assist by defender Matthias Ostrzolek.

A hat trick from Mainz's Danny Latza buried Die Rothosen in the match starting with the German midfielder's equalizer in the 35th minute. It was followed by two goals in the 56th and 67th minutes to complete the hosts' three-goal haul.

Meanwhile, Schalke is also reeling with three straight winless games after going on a three-game winning run.

Head coach Markus Weinzierl's side is coming off a 1-1 draw with fellow middling team SC Freiburg at their home ground of Veltins Arena also last Saturday, via SkySports.

After a goalless first half of action, German forward Florian Niederlechner finally broke the game's deadlock in the 64th minute with a left-footed shot from the center of the box off a pass by teammate Janik Haberer.

However, Die Knappen was able to level the count 10 minutes later with a header by Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka as he directed teammate Abdul Rahman Baba's cross past the defense of Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow.

Schalke is now in the 11th place in the overall standings, eight points ahead of Hamburg and six points above the bottom three relegation zone.
