Good news for fans of the novel-turned-movie now TV series "Shooter" as it will be renewed for a second season by the USA Network. Though its first season is just halfway from finishing, the TV network that airs the said program already confirmed it will be returning for another installment.

The TV series is based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Hunter, "Point of Impact," which was first adapted on the big screen back in 2007. Mark Wahlberg, who was the lead star of the said movie adaptation, is one of the major producers behind the high-rated TV series, TV by the Numbers reported.

"Shooter" follows the story of Bob Lee (Ryan Phillippe), a struggling ex-Marine and decorated war sniper trying to clear his name from the accusations being linked to him. Lee was hired to calculate and determine the location of the President of the United States' killer but was instead framed as the assasinator. Lee will encounter dilemmas under different circumstances as he tries to stay alive and save the lives of his loved ones.

Under the creation of John Hlavin, "Shooter" is currently hitting desirable ratings for 2016. According to the above-mentioned report, the action-packed TV program has already amassed an average of 2.6 million viewers with 974,000 of them from the adult category of 18-49 age demographic. These figures were still attained despite the show being moved from its original premiere back in July.

"John Hlavin and the team behind 'Shooter' have delivered a compelling action thriller that consistently engages a strong and loyal audience," NBCU Cable Entertainment president Chris McCumber said in a statement obtained by TV Line. "We look forward to partnering once again with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions as we follow Bob Lee into his next chapter."

The consistency of USA Network's number of audience from "WWE Smackdown" until "Shooter" was able to maintain the network's image as one of the most successful ad-supported cable network every Tuesday from 8pm to 11pm. "Shooter" airs Tuesdays at the USA Network and the last episode of its first season will air on Jan. 17, 2017.
