'The Mummy' IMAX trailer is broken, lacks all sound effects except for actors' voices

Sofia Boutella plays Princess Ahmanet/The Mummy in the 2017 'The Mummy' reboot.

IMAX recently released a brand new trailer for the 2017 reboot of "The Mummy" starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella and Annabelle Wallis. The trailer released was incomplete, however, and lacked all sound effects other than the actors' voices.

Everything from the sound of the plane creaking to the background sounds of the action sequences are missing for the first half of the trailer. The music suddenly plays roughly three quarters into the trailer and is too loud, overtaking the impact of the action on screen, according to Cinema Blend.

For the majority of the trailer the only sounds heard are Tom Cruise's voice as he screams and grunts as his character is tossed around in a crashing plane. Wallis can also be heard shouting without any background sound effect as her character's parachute pops open in the middle of an action sequence.

Universal Pictures have taken down the broken version of the trailer and IMAX has also taken down their initial upload. Several YouTube accounts have attempted to keep the trailer available but were also quickly taken down due to copyright concerns.

This is not the first time that a broken version of a trailer was released online, according to The Verge. In 2015 the BBC released a trailer for the movie "Everest" and it too lacked any sound effects and music other than the actors' voices.

The 2009 film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" also leaked online prior to its theatrical release. It too was incomplete and featured numerous sequences without CGI special effects. Green screen backgrounds were still visible in this early, widely pirated version of the film.

A reboot of the popular monster movie franchise, "The Mummy" will no longer count the 2014 "Dracula Untold" as part of its cinematic universe. The movie will star Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll, indicating that there will be a "Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll" film to follow.

"The Mummy" is set to be released on June 9, 2017. Watch the official trailer here:
