Battleship Island Scented Candles

“Battleship Island” actor Song Joong-ki is estimated to have spent 25 million won or $21,000 for the gift of scented candles that he gave to each of the 500 staff of “Battleship Island.”

On Friday, some of the staff of the upcoming movie revealed that the 31-year-old actor gave the candle, worth about 50,000 won or $42 each as his way of thanking the “Battleship Island” staff for their hard work. It is his way of expressing his gratitude to the film’s workers for sharing the joy and sorrows of making the movie, Soompi reported.

But he did not mass distribute the gift. Instead, the scented candles came with a handwritten message for each crew. Everyone who was part of the movie were touched by the warm show of appreciation by Song Joong-ki.

Since “Descendants of the Sun” ended, the actor was busy with fan meets in different cities in China and then with shooting “Battleship Island” the past six months. In the film, he plays Park Moo Young, an independence fighter who infiltrated Hashima Island to rescue vital people working then for Korea’s independence from imperial Japan.

The 400 Joseon captives in “Battleship Island” placed their lives at stake to flee from the forced labor on the island. Besides Song Joong-ki, the other stars of the movie, directed by Ryu Seung, include Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub and Lee Jung Hyun.

Other than “Battleship Island” which is scheduled for screening in the first half of 2018, fans of Song Joong-ki are also looking forward to watch him in “Train to Busan 2” where he would play a zombie. Next Entertainment World, which produced “Descendants of the Sun,” said in mid-December that Gaumont, a French studio, is set to shoot a remake of “Train to Busan," according to Moviepilot.
