"Supergirl" lead star Melissa Benoist has ended her marriage to Blake Jenner.

According to Yahoo, the 28-year-old actress was the one who filed for divorce from "The Edge of Seventeen" actor. Benoist cited irreconcilable differences as the main reason for their divorce. In the court documents obtained by TMZ, Benoist also requested the court to make her legal name into Melissa Benoist again instead of Melissa Jenner.

Benoist and Jenner got engaged in 2013, but they tied the knot only in the spring of 2015. The couple was last spotted together in September when they attended the Toronto International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Benoist and Jenner, who first met on the set of Ryan Murphy's "Glee," were once madly in love with each other. In 2014, Jenner expressed his happiness over working with Benoist. In the FOX TV series, the actors played the role of an onscreen couple.

"I thought she was the bomb the second I saw her, so it was just super cool to be working together. Thankfully, we've had some scenes together. Because if we did not, I do not think we would have had the time to get to know each other," he told People. During the same interview, Jenner also shared some details from their wedding which they tried to keep as low-key as possible.

According to him, the ceremony was private and intimate and only their closest friends and loved ones were in attendance. Jenner also shared that he sang the words "Will You Marry Me?" to his then-fiance.

In other news, Benoist also gushed over Jenner back in March. At that time, the couple appeared to still be madly in love with each other. According to her, Jenner is her favorite person to act with and team up with on television.

Elsewhere, Benoist will return to the new episodes of "Supergirl" Season 2 starting January. In the hit The CW series, Benoist plays the role of Supergirl or Kara Royster. In the upcoming episodes, Supergirl is expected to come face to face with some villainous characters.

"Supergirl" Season 2 will return to The CW with new episodes starting Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
