'Resident Evil VII: Biohazard' won't stray from series roots: Producers; Where has the Raccoon City Police Department gone?

Fans dress up with zombie makeup in celebration of the world premiere of the latest 'Resident Evil' movie in Tokyo, Japan last Dec. 13, 2016.

There are a number of fans that believe that the "Resident Evil" games are starting to get a bit out of hand and more often than not stray from the series' roots. This has even led some to stop playing the games in the series. However, the producers of the "Resident Evil" series are now hoping to bounce back with the next installment in the zombie video game franchise.

"Resident Evil VII: Biohazard" will make many changes to the series' formula, which made fans fall in love with it. Producer Masachika Kawata has publicly come out and said that fans will feel right at home despite these changes. Fans have so far been skeptical about "Biohazard" because of how different it looks from the other games in the series; however, Kawata says that it will still deliver that signature punch from the "Resident Evil" games.

"If you look at just the gameplay that's been shown so far, you may think of it as a reboot at first, but the story and narrative have shaped up to fit the series as a numbered title," Kawata said in an interview with Game Informer. "It is still a Resident Evil title, which draws on the series' roots of horror, exploration, puzzles, and combat while offering something new," the producer added.

"Biohazard" has taken away a lot of the features that made the older games in the series unique. For starters, demos showcase a first-person perspective to the game. So far, there also has not been much mention of the Raccoon City police department as well as a number of big name characters from the series, Cinema Blend reported.

The game's producers have defended their decision; saying that it will all make sense once the entire game hits the shelves. This will apparently add more mystery to the game, as they do not want to reveal too much information about it yet. As it seems that the "Resident Evil" franchise is on a bit of a descent this past couple of years, a refreshing new take may be just what it needs.
