Audrey Esparza and Rob Brown arrive at the NBCUniversal 2015 Summer Press Tour at the Beverly Hilton on August 12, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California.

"Blindspot" Season 2 may see Zapata (Audrey Esparza) and Read (Rob Brown) becoming closer than ever.

In the previous episodes, the two characters have relied on each other for a lot of things. Not only have they been instrumental in helping Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander); they have also been very helpful to their team. Zapata and Reade's history also goes a very long way back since Reade previously figured out that Zapata was hiding something from him with regards to Jane and their late boss Bethany Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste).

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Martin Gero urged fans to continue watching Zapata and Reade in the hit NBC series. After all, the exec believes that the two characters share a beautiful yet complicated relationship. "Aubrey and Rob have just done amazing work this year. I feel like this season feels so much nicer, and a lot has to do with the weight they have been able to carry. We are nowhere near done with that story, that is all I will say," he said.

Meanwhile, viewers of "Blindspot" may only have the rest of Season 2 to wait and see if Zapata and Reade will indeed become an item. As of late, the series still has not been renewed by the heads of the network. Last year, "Blindspot" was renewed for a second season just a few weeks after its pilot episode aired. This time around, the show is heading to the second half of the season without any advice from NBC yet.

According to TV Line, "Blindspot" may be renewed or canceled because the show has not been faring well in terms of ratings. Unlike Season 1, the ratings and audience share for the series have been dropping week in and week out.

"Blindspot" Season 2 will return to NBC starting January 2017.
