Activision is reportedly bringing a new game in the "Call of Duty" series, with Sledgehammer Games onboard as the developer. One holiday tweet from Michael Condrey, the chief operating and development officer of Sledgehammer Games, sent fans of the franchise speculating about the next "Call of Duty" game.

Condrey posted on Twitter an image of an old M1911A Colt .45 pistol, a weapon commonly used in World War II, the Vietnam War and Korean War. But a "Call of Duty" title from Sledgehammer Games was only focused on one of the timelines - the Vietnam War. This led to assumptions that the next game to be released in 2017 will revolve on this setting.

Sledgehammer once worked on a third-person shooter title set in the Vietnam War-era and it was called "Fog of War," a 2014 report from IGN mentioned. However, this project was canceled to give way to "Advanced Warfare." But after Condrey's tweet, rumors about this Vietnam War-set game have once again surfaced.

In another prediction, a 2017 "Call of Duty" game is said to be another "Modern Warfare" game. According to Wedbush Securities game industry analyst, Michael Pachter, who told Gamesindustry.biz, the "Modern Warfare" series was so well received that it is highly likely that there will be a fourth installment.

Pachter believes that Activision should turn to a popular title like "Modern Warfare" to make sure the franchise will get its glory back after a poor performance with "Infinite Warfare." "Call of Duty returns to glory with a Modern Warfare title from Sledgehammer. Although I think that they want to establish the Advanced Warfare brand as a franchise, the relatively poor performance of Infinite Warfare suggests to me that Activision has to get its act together and bring fans back into the fold," Pachter said of his predictions for 2017.

For now, though, nothing is set in stone but it is widely believed that the next "Call of Duty" game will be from Sledgehammer. Meanwhile, check out the action in "Modern Warfare 3" in the video below.
