A 29-year-old Guangdong woman named Chen has been detained by police after she admitted to running her motorcycle over the legs of a six-year-old girl.

Chen was arrested on Tuesday. She explained to the police that she drove over the child’s leg for being naughty. It seems the victim lay on the ground and did not want to go home for dinner, Chinadaily reported. However, it turned out it was not a random accident because Chen and the victim are related by in some sort of way.

Family Ties

Chen is living in since 2014 with the girl’s 50-year-old grandfather. They have a two-year-old son, while Chen has a six-year-old daughter from a past relationship. The girl is under the care of her grandfather and Chen, who as common-law wife, is sort of like the victim’s stepgrandmother.

The girl was left under their care since April because her father, Ye, is working in another city, while her mother has divorced Ye and had married someone else. Chen called Ye to apologize for what she did.

Leg Injuries

The victim was brought to a hospital where physicians treated injuries on her legs when Chen ran over her limbs along Fuyuannan Road, Yangjiang City at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Since the video became viral, Yangjiang Vice Mayor Liang Jinhai ordered a task force to investigate the incident that led to Chen’s arrest. Ye is now back in Yangjiang to take care of his daughter.

According to Shanghaidaily, footage of the incident showed Chen kickstarted the motorcycle and then drove toward the child which from the video looks like she had crushed the victim’s legs while the child is heard crying. However, a staff from the city’s Public Security Bureau said they are not sure if Chen really crushed the child’s leg since the incident was captured from a blind corner.
