The release date and a number of key specifications about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone have possibly been leaked. If these leaks are to be believed then Android fans must wait a little bit longer for the S8, as it seems that Samsung is taking extra precautions to avoid the problems that affected the Note 7.
Samsung has been known to be a bit erratic when it comes to the release date of their products with last year's S7 release taking place on Mar. 11. On the other hand, the Galaxy S4, S5, and S6 were all released in the month of April on the 27th, 11th and 10th respectively. The release dates of the S4, S5, and S6 were a bit far off to the Galaxy S3, S2, and S1 models, which were released in May to June.
If this leak is to be believed, Samsung will skip its regular, almost scheduled, unveiling at the Mobile World Congress this coming February. Instead, they will be looking to announce the Galaxy S8 smartphone at a separate event in New York, according to Forbes. This New York event will occur sometime in late March or in early April. This later date could allow Samsung to iron out the battery problems that have plagued its smartphones for the past couple of months.
Samsung will most likely keep with its in-house battery producer Samsung SDI with supplying the batteries for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge. This comes despite the fact that they also produced the "explosive batteries" of the Note 7. However, these batteries may not be the primary source of this particular problem, as it also occurred when Samsung used different batteries provided by the manufacturer ATL.
Mass production of the Galaxy S8 smartphone is scheduled in March of this year, according to SamMobile, which reinforces the timeframe of the announcement event in New York. The reported release date for this handset is Apr. 18, but as of right now, this date is not yet official. Just like with its S6 and S7 models, the Galaxy S8 will come in a standard, flat variation as well as an "Edge" variation with a curved screen.
