The Audience

Actress Helen Mirren has struck a chord in all her fans for her excellent portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the Broadway musical "The Queen". The latest play pertains to the queen's weekly meetings with the elected Prime Ministers of United Kingdom. Despite having a London premiere, the show has traveled to New York as well and had a profound debut at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The play writer is none other than the very acclaimed Peter Morgan, who was also the script-writer behind the movie "The Queen". Stephen Daldry directs the play to perfection.

The 69 year-old actress said that earlier she had portrayed the royal in the biopic "The Queen" and both the times, she had to engage in a lot of research to do justice to the part. She also added that when she researched for her part, she gained a lot of respect for the 88 year-old queen, who has been a stoic royal all through these years, as reported by Daily Star.

The queen gets to know more about her country and the current problems plaguing the nation through her Prime Ministers, with whom she has weekly meetings. As these meetings are private and out of bounds for the common man, so it is of course, an imaginative recreation of what must be happening behind the scenes, as per reports by Times of India.

The play shows what her meetings must be with various Prime Ministers ranging from Winston Churchill, John Major to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher. The other actors in the play are Dakin Matthews, Dylan Baker and Rod McLachlan.
