The iconic logo and tagline of Nokia is displayed along with the potential look of the upcoming Nokia Edge Android smartphone.

Nokia has formally introduced the first of the series of Android handsets that the former King of Mobile is expected to unleash this 2017. But the Nokia 6 is hardly of a flagship breed, somehow indicating that the Finnish device maker is still working on the rumored premium Nokia P release date that likely will happen July this year.

Now in charge of the Nokia mobile brand, HMD Global let the world of the incoming Nokia 6. The mid-range device, according to Forbes, will likely debut via the MWC 2017 in Barcelona, which kicks off February 27. The same report speculated that the Nokia 6 MWC unveiling will happen simultaneous with its commercial availability, which as mentioned by HMD Global in a press release will be in China.

But as multiples reports have observed, the Nokia 6 is not the kind that prompt the likes of Apple and Samsung to quake on its feet. Device specs provided by its maker showed that the handset is below par of the iPhone and Galaxy S levels. The power under the hood is a Snapdragon 430 SoC and is supported by 4GB of RAM.

Baked in with the Nokia 6 is 64GB of internal memory, camera combo of 16-megapixel on rear and 8-megapixel on front and an X16 LTE modem for high-speed wireless broadband connection. The phone is positively not a flagship but the build is headlined by an aluminum unibody that HMD Global said highlights the Nokia 6's "highest level of visual and structural quality."

To take home the Nokia 6, buyers need only to shell out no more than $250 and the price tag essentially confirms that there will be better toys that the brand will soon deploy. Speculations are rife that work is underway for the more high-end Nokia D1 or D1C and Nokia P.

It is the latter that is believed to be Nokia's first Android flagship bet. It is thought to be flagship as Pocket Lint reported that the Nokia P will run on the 10-nanometer Snapdragon 835 or the same SoC that will mighty up a number of upcoming Android headliners such as the Galaxy S8, LG G6 and HTC 11. And as 2017 flagship, the Nokia P will have a RAM provision that will start at 6GB.

And like in previous Nokia outings, the Nokia P shooting prowess is something to watch for - rumored to be bannered by a 23MP high-resolution main camera with a Carl Zeiss optic lens.

Recently, Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reported that HMD Global has plotted a release date schedule that stretches from February 2017 through the third quarter of the year. That likely indicates that the company is saving the best for last and positioning the Nokia P for a rollout moment as early as July this year.
