The latest details and spoilers for "Supergirl" season2 will feature two new DC characters and no plans for "Superman" spin-off series.

Two new DC characters will be appearing in "Supergirl" season 2 as Mister Mxyzptlk and Music Maestro are added to the show. "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" star Peter Gadiot has been cast to play Mister Mxyzptlk as the Canadagraph Twitter page tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo of him along with "Supergirk" star Melissa Benoist.

Mister Mxyzptlk is a well-known Superman villain from the comics and is depicted as a magical creature who enjoys playing jokes with The Man of Steel in order to get under his skin. He serves as a foil to Superman as he uses magic to hurt him. Mxyzptlk is one of the most powerful bad guys who Superman faces, but is usually only interested in pranks and games. His powers seem magical, but really there are due to technology from his home in the fifth dimension that do not exist in the third dimension. He controls everything through his own willpower. However, he is also very easy to trick, which is key to defeating him. Any time he says his own name backwards, he has to go home for 90 days before returning to Earth.

Joining Mister Mxyzptlk is Music Maestro who has been teased to appear in the second "Supergirl" and "The Flash" crossover, which hinted to be a musical. Executive producer Greg Berlanti has confirmed the character's involvement in the crossover and they are finishing the script, Entertainment Weekly reported.

It has been rumored that "Avengers" movie director Joss Whedon would helm the episode and "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris could be reprising his role which first appeared in "Batman: The Brave and The Bold".

In other news, it seems that the CW Network has confirmed that they have no plans for a "Superman" spin-off series.

CW president Mark Pedowitz stated in an interview that they are unsure if "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Hoechlin could return as the Man of Steel in the second haft of "Supergirl" season 2, Screenrant reported.

Superman first appeared in the beginning of "Supergirl" season 2 helping her cousin, Kara (Benoist) and the D.E.O. fight Cadmus and their Metallos (played by John Corben and Rich Ting). Superman remaining a supporting character on "Supergirl" may not be a bad thing, after allThe CW already has "Supergirl", "Arrow", "The Flash", and "Legends of Tomorrow", so finding the right timeslot for an additional DC show could be tricky.

"Supergirl" season 2 returns on Jan. 23, 2017 8PM EST on the CW Network.
