Sony Interactive Entertainment has sent an email to PlayStation owners in North America revealing that the firm will be discontinuing its Live Event Viewer App for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

In the email posted on PlayStation Lifestyle blog, PlayStation® Live Events Team informed the users that starting on Jan. 10, Tuesday, they will not be able to buy the latest and greatest Live Events directly from PlayStation® Store on PS4TM.

"On January 10th, the Live Events Viewer app will be retired, but you can continue to purchase and view events until that date. Please note that unfortunately Live Events will no longer be available on PS3TM," the email read.

In addition, the team clarified that from Jan. 10, fans will enjoy a new and improved Live Events experience on PlayStation® Store on PS4TM. Although the PS4 will get the new Live Events experience, the PS3, Sony's older console will no longer have such a feature.

According to DualShockers, PS4 users can still buy live events from the PlayStation Store instead of the Live Events Viewer app. This also begins on Jan. 10. However, the lack of any kind of replacement service for the PS3 is bad news to its players as they will have to upgrade to the PS4 to watch any live events this year through their console.

The Live Events Viewer App was launched for free in 2013 for PS3 and in 2014 for PS4 and the app was a quite useful. The App allowed users to watch paid for and free live content like sports events and other odd bits of programming.

Meanwhile, six of PlayStation Plus January 2016 games will still be available for access up this month with four of them played on the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation Plus January 2017 lineup include; This War of Mine: The Little Ones (PS4), Day of the Tentacle Remastered (PS4, PS Vita), Blazerush (PS3), Azkend 2, The Swindle (PS3, PS4, PS Vita) and Titan Souls (PS Vita, PS4).

It means that the December's choice of PlayStation Plus titles, including: Stories: Path of Destinies, Invisible, Inc, Hyper Void, Color Guardians, Tiny Troopers Joint Ops, VVVVVV, are now offline and can no longer be downloaded.
