Yuehua Entertainment Investigates Chinese Manager of UNIQ for Embezzlement

Yuehua Entertainment, the agency of the Chinese-Korean boy band UNIQ, is having one of its managers in its China office investigated. The reason behind the probe is the manager allegedly exploiting his position and misusing company property.

According to Soompi, Yuehua Entertainment reported the case to authorities and the manager has been accused of illegal activity. The manager, together with a co-worker, embezzled one million yuan, or $144,200).

OST Singers

The agency launched UNIQ, made up of Sungjoo, Seungyou, Wenhan, Yibo and Yixuan, in 2014 with the single “Falling in Love.” After the song’s release in China and South Korea, the group sang “Born to Fight” for the China release of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Celebrate” for the China release of “Penguins of Madagascar.”

Before the five members – who celebrated two years as a group in October – became part of UNIQ, they led diverse lives, according to KMusic. Yixuan underwent dance training in Sydney, Australia. Wenhan was into swimming, diving and classical guitar.

Yibo was into Hip Hop dancing and competed in 2011 as part of the national team. Seungyoun lived in three countries and played soccer. Sungjoo finished studies at Anyang Arts School and trained with YG Entertainment.

Careers in China

They were all recruited in China and practiced for almost five years before they were launched in October 2014. Since their launch, they have been busy with their careers in China. Sungjoo became a cast of a Chinese drama, Yibo in a movie.

Seungyeoun was a contestant on “Show Me the Money 5” and was working on a track with Flowsilk, a rapper, Soompi reported. With three Chinese members and two Koreans, UNIQ is listed by AllKpop as one of the bands that did better in China than in Korea. They rank as the 27th most popular Korean boy band in China and recently received a music show award for “Global Chinese Music” on CCTV.
