China avers it will not hesitate to use force against any nation intent on violating the "One China" policy.
The warning came after President-elect Donald Trump took a phone call from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, who congratulated the former for his victory in the U.S. presidential elections, and provoking Beijing.
Hua Chunying, China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said the United States is not oblivious about China's "One China" policy and warned that the Chinese government will show no mercy in fighting against any state encouraging Taiwan's independence.
She added China will be propelled to accelerate Taiwan's reunification with China.
"Any person should understand that in this world there are certain things that cannot be traded or bought," Hua was quoted as saying by China Daily via CNBC, saying further, "the One China principle is the precondition and political basis for any country having relations with China."
Hua likened an action damaging the One China principle to an act of lifting a rock only to be dropped on one's feet.
China will not tolerate any attempt to besmirch the One China policy or any illusion that violating the decades-long assertion is available for negotiation.
Although China was not apprised of the nature of Taiwan's call to President-elect Trump and neither the U.S. nor Taiwan is obliged to divulge the conversation, China will not cower to fight for Taiwan should Trump persist in provoking Beijing over the matter.
For many decades, the United States has recognized Taiwan to be part of China and President-elect Trump defied the years-long stance by saying, as quoted by Wall Street Journal through Independent United Kingdom, that "everything is under negotiation."
Following such statement, China's state-run newspaper reacted, saying Trump is playing with fire and it will be costly for the United States, and China's use of force against the world's largest economy, if any will be worth it, is only to make the U.S. aware of the sensitivity of the issue.
