The team, who has been through hell in extracting Murphy, will finally have their moment of truth when "Z Nation" Season 4 release date arrives this year.

While a definite "Z Nation" Season 4 release date remains unannounced, the good thing is that fans can expect it to happen this year. The SyFy zombie series' popularity with viewers guaranteed its renewal which was, in fact, already announced late last year.

In the midst of the season 3 airing, Syfy finally revealed last November 2016 that "Z Nation" Season 4 has been renewed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition, it was likewise announced that the fourth season will contain 13 episodes just like the previous seasons with the release date already slated this year.

However, there was a time when the "Z Nation" Season 4 renewal was cast in doubt, TV Series Finale reported.  Prior to the announcement, there were speculations that a fourth season might not be happening and that the show might be cancelled for good.

But then again, the show's sizable following proved to be its ticket for a fourth season renewal. "Z Nation" average 1.2 million viewers with a good half a million of them belonging to the 18-49 demographics highly valued by advertisers. Furthermore, the show has been consistently in the top 10 most-watched scripted series in cable since it premiered.

Created by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler, "Z Nation" is SyFy's entry into the highly popular zombie apocalypse genre. The series is set three years after a zombie epidemic spread in America killing most of the population. The government authorized a test vaccine to be experimented on three inmates where two died leaving only one alive.

Mankind's hope falls upon the sole survivor of the experiment, a man named Murphy, as it is believed that his blood could contain the antibodies that may be used to make a vaccine. An extraction team was formed to get Murphy out of New York. Season 3 ended with the team finally in the process of transporting him to a CDC lab in California.

However, the cliffhanger ending likewise introduced a worrying possibility. During the transport, it appeared that Murphy started to exhibit more zombie-like characteristics. Fans are definitely looking forward to the "Z Nation" Season 4 release to see if the team will finally be able to fabricate a vaccine from Murphy or if everything the team went through to get him out was all for nothing.
