Ultimate Fighting Championship up and coming fighter Yair Rodriguez pulled off the biggest win in his young career after battering Hall of Famer BJ Peen at UFC Fight Night 103 a few days ago but he will reportedly be sidelined for potential undisclosed injuries he suffered during the bout.
In an information released by the Arizona Department of Gaming to MMA Fighting on Tuesday, the Mexican mixed martial artist is one of the three fighters to receive an indefinite suspension and will not be permitted to fight unless given a clearance by the doctor.
Rodriguez was just coming into his sixth fight in the UFC but shocked the world by making quick work of one of the most feared fighters in UFC history. After thwarting Penn in the first round, Rodriguez landed a front head kick at the start of the second round before finishing his opponent with a barrage of ground hits.
Aside from Rodriguez, Ben Saunders and Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger will also be out for an indefinite period of time since the Arizona Department of Gaming does not publicly divulge the reason behind the suspensions. Penn also received a 180-day medical suspension after absorbing his first knockdown in his historic UFC career.
UFC Fight Night 103' other main card winners Joe Lauzon and Sergio Pettis also received a 30-day and 60-day medical suspensions, respectively. Marcin Held, Court McGee and John Moraga will also be out for seven, 45 and seven days, respectively.
Rodriguez is currently placed the eighth contender in UFC.com's featherweight rankings, a two notch climb from his former ranking, and is expected to make a run for the title in the next years with a six-fight winning streak behind him.
Penn, meanwhile, has been encouraged to finally hang up the gloves after looking hapless against Rodriguez. 'The Prodigy' returned to action after announcing his retirement in 2014. He has lost all of his last four fights.
