The are no durians being sold in China’s Sichuan Province, so a woman from Sichuan going home for the Lunar New Year festivities decided to bring home two large durian fruits for her family.

The woman was unaware of train policy that bans the smelly, but delicious, fruit. Rather than let the expensive fruit go to waste, the woman, who tried to board a railway station in Chengdu on Sunday, used her bare hands to open the durian and eat it, Shanghaiist reported.

Shares the Fruit

Because she was apparently aware of the possible negative effects of excessive durian consumption on her body, the woman offered the fruit, often described as smelling like hell and tasting like heaven, to other travelers who ate it before boarding their train. Her scheme worked because the woman was able to board the train and is likely now in Sichuan.

Likely, she also made a few trips to the toilet during her journey back to Sichuan. According to THealth, indigestion is one of the nine risks of people who eat too much durian, particularly if she also drank coffee or alcoholic beverages or soda.

9 Health Risks

The Sichuan woman actually risked her health since the fruit has eight other health risks when consumed in excess. These are high cholesterol, diabetes, miscarriage, heart disease, hypertension, damage to kidneys and decreased metabolism and damaged to immune system if mixed with alcohol.

The website, however, noted that durian also has good effects on the body because the fruit contains vitamins B, C & E, iron, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, calcium, phosphorus, folic acid, magnesium, potassium, manganese and carotene. However, like many food, it should be eaten in moderation.

In March, a similar incident happened at the Anhui train station, and the female passenger also ate 5 kilos of durian. Other passengers disallowed from carrying banned items aboard trains and planes have drank the whole bottle of baiju, slaughtered a pair of chicken and threw on the floor expensive Korean cosmetics at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
