Jennifer Morrison attends the 'Once Upon A Time' panel during Comic-Con International 2016 at San Diego Convention Center on July 23, 2016 in San Diego, California.

Is "Once Upon a Time" going to have to bid goodbye to another well-loved characters soon? The fantasy-themed show is hanging between the "to renew or not renew" balance. To make things more complicated, Jennifer Morrison, who plays one of the main leads Emma Swan, will see her contract with the show expiring soon.

According to TV Guide, Morrison told The Drop-in podcast that her contract is ending in April and there is a lot of uncertainty regarding her character's fate on the show. Moreover, with "Once Upon a Time" still not renewed for Season 7, there is also a big mystery about whether the show will move forward or not.

"They haven't picked up the show officially yet -- they might, they might not. We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show," Morrison said. "And if they do continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now."

ABC Chief Channing Dungey explained that "Once Upon a Time" showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are still discussing a potential "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 that might move the show into a new direction. He clarified, however, that this new direction does not necessarily mean that the show would not bring back the original cast members.

"Whenever there's change, there's always a transition," Entertainment Weekly quoted Dungey as saying.

However, Morrison does not intend to leave the show any sooner. She revealed that she has "fierce loyalty to the show" and that she's "fiercely protective of the character."

"I don't have any interest in abandoning something that is such a special part of my life, but I also know I don't have it in me to do it forever, so it's more about a life decision, and I don't even know how to make that life decision until I know what ABC even wants," Morrison said during the podcast.

Meanwhile, "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 still has loads more to offer. Rose McIver will reprise her role as Tinker Bell, and it is speculated that the fairy will help Regina (Lana Parilla) in a big way.

"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 returns to ABC this March.
