A massive black hole estimated to be 12 billion times larger than the Sun was recently discovered by researchers from China. The black hole was said to have formed around 900 million years after the Big Bang.
The report came from Nature and said that the black hole is unlike any other in its age group.
A black hole is a very dense region in outer space which is a result of an exploding star, it has a very strong gravitational pull that no matter or particle can from escape from it not even light.
The black hole was named SDS J010013.02 and was discovered by a group of researchers from China's Peking University and the University of Arizona. According to the research team the black is six times bigger compared to its usual contemporaries.
The report added that the researchers lead by Peking University's Xue-Bing Wu were the first to discover the black hole using a telescope based in Yunnan, China. The group then tapped the services of other telescopes all over the globe in order to gather additional information, according to CNN.
A spokesman of the research team said, "The existence of such black holes when the universe was less than one billion years old presents substantial challenges to theories of the formation and growth of black holes and the co-evolution of black holes and galaxies."
The University of Arizona released a media statement saying that the black hole is responsible for the brightest quasar of the early universe. According to NASA, quasars are beacons of light getting its power by accretion of materials into black holes.
