"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is one of the most highly anticipated games for the Nintendo Switch. The game is already breaking a lot of the traditions adhered by previous entries in the franchise and it has now been confirmed that it is doing so again by introducing an alternative ending.

"There is an alternate ending if you meet certain criteria," Producer Eiji Aonuma explained in an interview with IGN Portugal (via Dual Shockers). "If you do a few things, you may see a different ending."

Previous games in the franchise always had just one ending. Most of the alternative secrets involved secret bosses such as the battle against Ganon and Twinrova in the "Oracle of Ages" and "Oracle of Seasons" games on the Gameboy Color.

Other games, such as "The Witcher 3," have multiple endings. These different endings are radically separate from each other. Other titles, such as the "Halo" games on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, have an additional, secret scene that builds on the main ending.

"Breath of the Wild" is expected to follow the latter route. This would mean the game has a main ending but if certain secrets are met or obtained then the player would get an additional scene that further fleshes out the already available ending, Game Rant reported.

During the same interview, Aonuma confirmed that the horse Epona would be in the game. Epona was first introduced in the N64 classic "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and has made a few appearances in later titles.

However, Aonuma did not want to reveal how Epona was obtained or what this quest would mean for the player. This indicates that finding Epona in "Breath of the Wild" would involve several secrets scattered across the game's vast world map.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will release on March 3 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch and for the Wii U as its final first-party game. The official trailer can be viewed below:
